College Athletes have a lot on their plates, balancing academics, training, and games. But did you know that there is a dedicated group on campus working behind the scenes to advocate for their needs and enhance their experience? Enter the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), a unique organization on campus that gives Student Athletes a voice on campus and helps to foster positive changes both in their athletics department but also in the wider campus community. SAAC is also instrumental in building leadership skills for its members, many of whom take on significant responsibilities that prepare them for life beyond athletics. By serving on SAAC, student-athletes gain experience in organization, teamwork, and public speaking, often collaborating with faculty and staff to create positive change on campus. These experiences are invaluable, providing the foundation for personal growth and preparing them to lead in various professional fields after graduation.
The Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is a group of student-athletes dedicated to enhancing the student-athlete experience. SAAC is composed of representatives from each athletic team, with student-athletes of varying class years and sports bringing a diverse set of experiences and perspectives. Through regular meetings and events, these members work together to address issues and provide recommendations that impact the student-athlete experience at Pace and in the NCAA. At Pace University, SAAC serves as a powerful platform for advocating for student-athletes, fostering a sense of community, and enhancing the overall athletic experience. The Executive Board is made up of three people; Brianna Shea, President, Morgan Amos, Vice President, & Katerina Luna, Secretary. It does not stop there though, SAAC is made up of representatives from every athletic team ensuring each voice is heard and no one goes unseen.

This year, SAAC reached a significant milestone by integrating and collaborating with Pace’s Student Government Association (SGA), a move that deepens the relationship between student-athletes and the entire student body. By integrating into SGA, SAAC ensures that athletes have a voice in university-wide discussions, further uniting the athletic and academic communities. To gain a deeper understanding of SAAC’s work and vision, I sat down with Brianna Shea, the president of SAAC at Pace University. She shared her thoughts on the organization’s mission, recent accomplishments, and the rewarding experience of being a leader in this important group.
She shared how being a part of SAAC has always been meaningful to her, as it provides an opportunity to improve the student-athlete experience. “When the opportunity to lead presented itself, I knew it was my chance to amplify the voices of my peers and work on creating real change on campus,” she said. This year, SAAC’s integration into the Student Government Association has been particularly impactful. “It’s allowed us to have a stronger presence in campus-wide decisions and created a better understanding between the student-athlete community and the larger student body. It feels like we’re all working toward a common goal.”
Brianna highlighted several key projects SAAC has been working on, including their recent success with Setter Madness, which she described as their “best-yet.” Upcoming events include Giving Tuesday on December 3, a Toy Drive for the holidays, and exciting programs like Pride Hoops on January 28, Pace Goes Pink on February 1, and the Celebration of Black Excellence on February 19. These initiatives are designed to not only bring the athletic and university communities together but also to make a lasting impact. When asked about the most rewarding part of her role, Brianna reflected on the positive outcomes of SAAC’s work. “Whether it’s organizing an event or hearing how a workshop helped someone, those moments remind me why this work is so important.” She encouraged others to get involved, emphasizing how SAAC offers opportunities for leadership, personal growth, and community building. “SAAC isn’t just about being part of an organization—it’s about being part of something bigger.”
With a continued commitment to excellence and advocacy, SAAC is shaping the future of Pace athletics. By listening to their peers and promoting inclusivity, SAAC is helping make Pace University a more welcoming and empowering environment for every student-athlete. Through its efforts, the committee not only improves the athletic experience but also upholds the university’s core values, inspiring every Setter to strive for excellence both on and off the field. Whether you’re a student-athlete or a supporter, there are many ways to get involved with SAAC’s initiatives. From attending games and participating in fundraisers to cheering on the Setters, supporting SAAC is a fantastic way to contribute to the growth and success of Pace’s athletic community.
SAAC at Pace University stands as a testament to the power of community, leadership, and collaboration. By bridging the gap between athletics and the larger student body, SAAC fosters a campus culture rooted in unity and inclusion. Whether through high-energy events like Setter Madness, impactful initiatives such as Giving Tuesday, or programs celebrating diversity and mental health, SAAC continues to elevate the student-athlete experience while strengthening its connection to the entire Pace community. Keep up with SAAC and all they do with checking out Pace Athletics.
As Brianna Shea, SAAC’s president, perfectly expressed, “SAAC isn’t just about being part of an organization—it’s about being part of something bigger.” Supporting SAAC means embracing a shared commitment to growth, representation, and making a difference. Together, we can carry forward SAAC’s mission to ensure that every student-athlete feels valued and every voice is heard. At Pace, SAAC is more than a committee—it’s a movement shaping the future of what it means to be a Setter.
