Tiger Woods has been chosen to receive the Bob Jones Award, the highest honor from the United States Gold Association (USGA) which recognizes the golfer’s “commitment to sportsmanship and respect for golf’s traditions”.

Woods began his professional career in 1996 and has since built a career which has cemented him as one of the most successful athletes of his generation. With over 106 worldwide wins and 15 major golf championships, the talent of Woods continues to inspire the younger generation of golfers.

Commenting on the award, president of the USGA, Fred Perpall stated: “Throughout his playing career and along with his incredible work outside the ropes, Tiger Woods has quite literally changed the game, and he has done it while embodying the characteristics recognized by this award and shared by others who have received it, His impact on the game is incalculable, and there is no doubt that golf would not be the same without Tiger in it.”

This past Saturday, Woods would take to social media to express his gratitude for the award.

The Bob Jones award, named in honor of American golfer Bobby Jones, according to USGA “recognizes an individual who demonstrates the spirit, personal character and respect for the game exhibited by Jones, winner of nine USGA championships”
