If you spend time on the Pace Athletics website, you have likely seen the weekly previews. These articles, list every game happening this week. Two are at home, and one is on the road. Whether you read that article or keep up with the regular schedules of the individual teams, often a person will go to that game and head home. There are multiple occasions, both outdoors and indoors in Pace Athletics where one game starts then finishes just hours before another. This September, on the 21st, Field Hockey hosted a home game, followed by Women’s Soccer hours later. Two weeks ago, Men’s basketball hosted a game that ended right before Swim and Dive began their meet downstairs. Understandably, sitting, cheering, standing, jeering for an hour, 90 minutes, and beyond exerts a lot of energy and time. Often, people go right home, some of course make the walk from one venue to the other.
For the events of September 21, Pace Field Hockey had the first draw at 1:00pm at Peter X. Finnerty Field. For games there, fans sat atop the hill and near the stairs that go down to the rest of our athletics facilities. Others opt to climb the bleachers behind the outfield wall. With a game-time equaling 60 minutes plus halftime and the breaks between corners, it put field hockey’s 3-2 victory safely before a 3:00 pm finish. It also meant a 2-and-a-half-hour game until soccer’s 6pm kick.
So how do people pass the time? A common method is heading to the Kessel Student Center for a bite to eat. For the adult fan or those who came with their wheels, they are sitting in the car until the next pregame rolls around. That is common for our fall and spring sports. The action is outdoors and so are the people. All you do is take the walkway from the bleachers of Northwell Stadium over to Finnerty Field. Same for spring, attend a home game at Pace Softball Field, walk across the parking lot, and over to the stadium. Once we are indoors, the transition is much faster.
On November 16, men’s basketball ended their 3pm home game vs Bentley at around 4:45. Downstairs, Swim & Dive were beginning their meet right at 5pm. That meant that any other supporters and I had just 15 minutes to navigate the crowd out of the gym, use the bathroom, return to the concessions, and find their way to the pool. And there are less seats to grab too. Supporters ought to take their jackets off, too. The pool gets warm and so does the entire place. What does matter is two more hours of Pace Athletics. Whether it is on grass, turf, court, or water, getting extra sports is always a plus for people. For all Setters’ and their fans, it meant more to root for.
